Secret or Surprise is a beautifully illustrated picture book to help protective adults prevent child sexual abuse by opening up important conversations with children aged 4+ years
It’s for parents, family, educators, and caregivers to teach children the difference between safe surprises and unsafe secrets; empowering them to recognise and speak up about potential dangers.
The story is shared from the perspective of a child, through a conversation with their mother around body safety, safe people, unsafe people and behaviours, and the importance of always telling a safe person when they are told to keep an ‘unhappy’ secret.
It will initiate potentially life-changing conversations and unburden children of the secrets they should never have been made to carry.
Secret or Surprise will empower kids to:
✅ Recognise unsafe behaviours and people
✅ Identify safe and trusted adults
✅ Understand the difference between secrets and surprises
✅ Develop the confidence to speak up if something feels wrong
This book is written with love and from our own experience, using beautiful Australian animals as the characters.
Every child deserves to be safe.
